The summer is over, but that doesn’t mean that the fun is done. Fall is wonderful in Marshall, Illinois, and there are many things to do for the whole family. And while we are sad that our fantastic Marshall Autumn Fest had to be canceled due to COVID-19, there are still many fun fall activities to enjoy. The Autumn Fest committee is already hard at work planning for next year, and 2021 will be the best fest ever. In the meantime, here are some things happening around Marshall to round out this month.
The food is front and center this coming weekend.
If you like to eat and love to have more than one food option, what could be better than a food truck rally? Head out to the Clark County Fairgrounds for the Food Truck Fiesta. Friday evening, September 18, the event runs from 4 pm to 7 pm, and Saturday 19th, eat to your heart’s content all day from 9 am to 7 pm. If you come out on Friday evening, you might be one of the 20 lucky winners to get free food.
There will be a drawing, and every food truck has agreed to offer free treats for the drawing. Are you feeling lucky? Get out there. There will be some spicy and cool offerings from tacos and Mexican fare to ice cream and barbeque.
Not into food trucks, or looking for something more upscale? Why not take your sweetie on an awesome date?
Lincoln Trail Restaurant is presenting its one-of-a-kind event – The Chef’s Table.
You will experience a 5-course meal featuring unique takes on American comfort food prepared by their Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, Chef Kyle. Each course will be presented with a pairing of a craft beer or wine if you prefer.
Seatings are at 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm, and seating is on a first-come-first-served basis. The price for this experience is $55 per person, and you must purchase tickets in advance. Call the restaurant to arrange reservations for your party during the restaurant’s hours of operation – 217-826-8831.
Fall Shopping is Fun in Marshall

Enjoy some outdoor shopping and fresh air at the Fall Fest at the Rusty Rooster.
Friday, September 18, Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20.
15589 E National Rd, Marshall
The fest will be open from 11 am – 7 pm, and you can shop the vendor booths for antiques, mums, candles, produce, and more. There will be food available, including barbeque, ice cream, and baked goods if you get a little hungry while shopping. Don’t forget to pick up your pumpkins too. It’s that time again. The Rusty Rooster Garden Center is open every day, and they offer more than just pumpkins. Mums are plentiful in many colors, and boy, are they beautiful this year.
As always, we respectfully request that you please wear your face mask and adhere to social distancing norms.
Everyone Loves a Yard Sale, and Marshall Does it Big!
The Community-Wide Yard Sale date is set for Saturday, September 26. Now is the time to clean out that attic or garage and sell those treasures. But If you want to have your yard sale be advertised, you need to hustle down to get and complete your application. You can pick one up City Hall, Harlan Hall, or the Chamber of Commerce. Still, they will only be available until Friday, September 18 (this coming Friday). Once you pay your $10 application fee, your location will be included on the map, and shoppers will flock to your door.
Would you rather buy than sell? Get the map and get out and about. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, and there will be plenty of sales all around town to meander through. Take the kids and Grandma too.
Get Some Fall Exercise – Golfing is better in the fall!
If shopping is not your thing, get out on the links and play some golf or sponsor it!
The Annual Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held this coming Friday, September 18
Hosted by the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce
There will be an 8 am flight and a 12-noon flight. The event is 18 holes, and participating teams will get the use of a golf cart. Each player will receive a goodie bag, and there will be food for the players.
There is only room for a couple more teams, so contact the chamber if you want to play or check out the action.
If you own a business and want to get some bang for your advertising buck, there are still sponsorship opportunities available. Sponsors get to advertise their business on the course to the participants during the event. Get seen and support this great event.
