I have been a lifelong resident of Marshall.  This town was and is a great place to grow up.  I am a 1970 graduate of Marshall High School and enjoyed participating in sports, Boy  Scouts and church during my school years. After graduation, I attended Eastern Illinois University to fulfill my desire to be a teacher and coach.  In 1974, I married my high school sweetheart Janet and started my education career in Hutsonville.  Two years later, I joined the faculty in Marshall where I taught, coached and was an administrator for 30 year.  After serving as a superintendent of schools in three neighboring towns and on the Marshall City Council for four years, I chose to run for mayor to better give back to the town that has given so much to me. Janet and I have raised two wonderful daughters here and have grandchildren beginning their lives here as well. Marshall is small enough to know your neighbors by the cars they drive and large enough to offer many opportunities to growing families. Whether it is your first time here or you are a longtime resident, I hope you enjoy your day in Marshall.

Sincerely

Mayor John Hasten
