As we head into Autumn, we watch things change: the weather, the start of the school year, the setting of the sun, earlier and earlier each night. Our kids are getting on school buses or walking to school, getting rides from parents and guardians sometimes as early as dawn and as late as dusk. Football season is underway, and there will be games on chilly nights as summer wanes.
In a town like Marshall, it’s easy to know your neighbor. We are not a big metropolis. We are a small and close-knit community. We take care of each other. We welcome newcomers and visitors, with kindness and caring. Things are a bit tough this year. Some members of our community might need a helping hand. We are lucky to have churches and organizations here to support us, and we support them too.
Here are a couple of ways Marshall shows its heart and its kindness and caring.
One of our churches, the Clarksville Baptist Church, is having a very unique yard sale. Why unique? Nothing is for sale. They are a member of our Marshall Chamber of Commerce and are generously offering lots of items that might help a family or individual who could use them.
The Clarksville Baptist Church Yard Sale will offer lots of treasures, including household items, home décor, books, toys, kitchenware, and all sorts of interesting items. There will be something for everyone, and the best part is that everything is FREE! Come out and rummage through the items, meet some new people, and learn more about the church.

Food and Other Items – a Resource for Individuals and Families.
The Marshall Food Disbursement Center is a wonderful resource, especially now when so many folks are experiencing tough times. Their Food Pantry and Thrift Shop are making a big difference in our community by providing much-needed resources for local individuals and families alike.
The Food Pantry is open to the public on Tuesdays from 2 PM to 4 PM and on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 1:30 to 4:30 PM.
The Thrift Shops are open on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 AM–12 PM.
This wonderful organization provides food resources to those in need and offers affordable secondhand clothing and household items. As winter approaches, check for warmer, gently used, much-needed fall and winter garb. The Marshall Food Disbursement Center is an important part of our community, strengthening and supporting us all. Please stop by and ask how you can help support their mission.

Students and Teachers need our love and support.
Going back to school after summer break can be stressful for our students and our teachers. New teachers, new students, new classrooms and routines, moving to a new grade, and learning new things are all part of what they will deal with. Be kind to the people who run our schools, drive the buses, and take care of our kiddos.
School sports are in full swing. Extracurricular activities are starting, and some of our students and teachers will spend long hours at the school, and they will need our support.
Kids and teachers, remember that you have a whole community cheering for you and believing in you. Teachers, reach out and let us know how we can support you as you take care of and educate our most precious resource… our children.

Show some love for a Marshall Institution as it closes its doors.
We are sad to hear that after 26 years, the Marshall Family Restaurant will close its doors for the last time on August 31. The owners said it was a hard decision, but ultimately the best path for their family.
The Marshall Family Restaurant joined the community in 2000, and many memories have been made over coffee, breakfasts, and endless meals. While they are closing the doors to Marshall Family Restaurant, that is not the end of their restaurant journey. You can visit them at their new restaurant, Paragon Family Restaurant, located at 2002 S Main Street, Paris, IL. Our loss is Paris’s gain, and we wish them all the success in the world.
