Tis the Season for Antiquing in Marshall, Illinois

You might be familiar with the TV show American Pickers. It’s the documentary series that airs on the History Channel and explores the unique world of antiquing. The show features some of the most skilled pickers in the business as they hunt for America’s most valuable antiques. Their goal is to seek large, unique collections and recycle relics and forgotten gems that lurk in attics, garages, and basements. Many of these items have interesting stories behind them and some pretty odd characters who own them. They often find historically significant objects that teach us about America’s past. The Pickers are always looking to discover something they’ve never seen before. This summer, they are planning to come to Illinois. They were initially hoping to be here by May, but they have postponed a few months due to COVID restrictions. They will be coming our way soon enough, though. They also will restore unique pieces for clients. The shop is named after the owner’s grandmother, where they got the unique name Ovie. Many of the primitives and antiques they have were “picked” by the two sisters who work there and own Ovie’s. If you are looking for something specific, they will do their best to find it for you.

  • Cloverfield Market

This very different market offers both farm-raised beef and custom-made tables and furniture made from local wood. How incredibly cool is that?
